Educational Background

Vidur Kataria and Sidhanth Madan both have diverse educational backgrounds. Vidur holds a Bachelor of Technology degree from Coventry University. After completing his studies, he did an internship at Jaguar Land Rover and Bird Group India. These opportunities helped him gain valuable experience in the automotive and service sectors. Later he decided to launch his own business.

On the other hand, Sidhanth graduated from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University with a Bachelor of Administration (BBA). He further studied abroad at Georgetown University. After that, he started working in marketing and consulting roles before delving into the world of entrepreneurship.

Early Life and First Venture

Vidur and Sidhanth since 2016 have made significant contributions to the Indian food industry. Their entrepreneurship journey began with their first Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) venture, Wok Me. The idea came from the success of the subway. They introduced the concept of allowing customers to select between rice or noodles, select their favorite vegetables and proteins, and finish off with a choice of sauces.

Wok Me bridged the gap between high-end Chinese food and street vendors, thus, offering affordable premium quality meals. With a unique concept and variety of sauces, their startup quickly gained immense popularity. Within a year, they received around 60,000 orders.

After seeing the rapid growth of Wok Me, Vidur and Sidhant planned to open multiple stores in Delhi-NCR and other locations. Unfortunately, in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world, which forced them to change their plans. Due to the lockdown restaurants were forced to close.

Facing the challenging situation, they decided to take this as an opportunity to pivot their business model and founded MasterChow, an online delivery service. The startup allows customers to create their Asian dishes at home using pre-packaged meal kits. The journey of MasterChow started when loyal customers of Wok Me requested their sauces to enjoy at home.

During the pandemic, Vidur’s house was their micro-factory from where all the products were home-delivered to their customers.

Success

The startup started to keep the venture afloat. However, soon, it turned into a thriving business. They convinced a Domino’s rider to deliver their orders. Later, they hired a consultant to help them understand e-commerce. Then they began selling their sauces from their website to Amazon. And then went from Amazon to BigBasket to Q-commerce and so on.

Starting with just 12 bottles to delivering over 12000 bottles daily, the company saw immense growth in a very short period of time.

Revenue

What started as a way to survive during a challenging day has turned into a thriving business and succeeded in generating a revenue of Rs 40 crores in 2024. Today MasterChow’s net worth has reached an Impressive Rs 38.2 crores. Currently, the brand is available on e-commerce platforms and can be found in over 25 thousand offline stores.

Future Plans

With the support of investors like Sequoia Capital, Peak XV, Anicut Capital, and others, the brand continues to grow. They have been experiencing impressive growth, with a 20 percent increase month-on-month. In the future, they are planning to expand their business by adding more products while maintaining the authenticity and quality of the brand.

MasterChow is continuously looking to fill the market gaps through their new sauce or noodles. The team is eager to bring the best tastes to their customers.
