Personal Life

Dharam Singh Deol, born into a Jat Sikh family in Phagwara, Kapurthala district, Punjab, was the son of Kewal Kishan Singh Deol and Satwant Kaur. He spent his early years in the village of Sahnewal. Dharmendra received his high school education from the Government Senior Secondary School in Ludhiana, where his father served as the headmaster. He pursued his intermediate studies at Ramgarhia College, Phagwara in 1952.

Dharmendra has been married twice and maintained both marriages throughout his life. He first married Prakash Kaur in 1954 at the age of 19, long before entering the film industry. They have four children together: Ajay Singh, Vijay Singh, Vijeta, and Ajeta Deol. Two of their sons, Ajay Singh and Vijay Singh, are now successful actors known as Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, respectively. Later, on May 2, 1980, Dharmendra married actress Hema Malini.
