Megha Malik, a marketing degree holder from the University of Salford grew up admiring her mother’s and granny’s classical jewelry pieces. Inspired so much by her love for jewellery designing, encouraged Megha to start her brand RESA, in 2017.
As she says, formed completely out of love.
Early Life
After her graduation Megha returned to India to pursue a career in fashion industry.
However, she was attracted towards jewelery designing in 2010, and she decided to give it a try. Starting with learning about precious stones, designing, and related stuff, her first collection was launched in November 2011. It had 40 pieces comprising bracelets, rings, and earrings.
What is RESA?
RESA is focused on handmade jewelry based on client demands and source diamonds and other stones from Mumbai and Surat. As the founder says, the company is not dependent on machines. RESA has a team of 40–60 laborers from Rajasthan and West Bengal who craft polki, kundan, and diamond jeweler.
The process of making jewelry begins with Megha’s handmade sketch. It is then converted into a CAD/CAM, a computer sketch. It is followed by a wax model and then finally goes into production.
At this stage, it is decided whether the design will be machine-based or handmade.
RESA have national and international clients from Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, UK, Vietnam and more.
RESA has witnessed 60% to 70% yearly growth since its inception. Moreover, the company deals with around 50 to 60 clients per month.
What is So Special About RESA Fine Jewellery?
RESA’s clients come from word of mouth or the brand’s annual shows in London. Megha does not support walk-in customers as her brand represents exclusivity. Recently, RESA organized a successful show in London with Faraz Manan.
Challenges and Solutions
As evident, in jewelry business it is impossible to escape duplication. Competitors copy their designs, and it harms the brand’s exclusive approach.
This is the reason why Megha avoids exhibiting her products.
However, due to her international client-base, Megha was able to overcome the challenge of demonetization and design cloning.
Future Plans
Presently, Megha wants to have a small counter display for her exclusive RESA jewelry collection.
However, in a broader sense, Megha wants RESA to become a unique brand that her 2 daughters would love to run in the future.
