Sidharth S Oberoi from Chandigarh has transformed his career from being a project engineer in the US to becoming the founder of LetsShave. A startup that offers top-quality shaving products. Through his startup, he generates an impressive revenue of around Rs 53.9 crore.
Family and Educational Background
Sidharth was born in Chandigarh. He completed his schooling from Vivek High School. He was raised in a family where both his parents had successful careers. His father runs an advertising firm in Chandigarh while his mother serves as a doctor.
Growing up, Sidharth showed interest in science and technology, which led him to pursue a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, with a minor in entrepreneurship and innovation, from Purdue University in the USA. After completing his studies, he secured a job at CSA Group as a project engineer. He gained experience in his field, but he desired to do something unique.
The Moment of Realization
To pursue his goal of doing something unique, Sidharth decided to start something of his own. One day while sitting in his university room, he got frustrated with the limited and poor quality of razors. After recognizing a lack of quality and affordable shaving products he conceived an innovative idea to delve into the field of shaving industry.
Now, Sidharth aimed to launch a shaving product that could give men a cleaner, comfortable, and closer shaving look. At the age of 22, he was determined to secure a partnership with Dorco, a Korean giant company.
The Bold Decision: Launching LetsShave
After the company Dorco was convinced to collaborate and showed interest in partnering with him, Sidharth made a bold decision to quit his job and focus completely on his startup. Upon returning to India in 2015, he launched LetsShave.
Initially starting from a small inventory room in Ambala, the brand quickly gained popularity with its innovative 6-blade razor design. While other companies focus mostly on selling razors for males, LetsShave is trying to meet the needs of female customers by introducing Evior, a brand that offers razors for women.
Climbing the Ladder of Success
In the beginning, Sidharth sold just 30 to 40 razors per month. But through hard work, dedication, and marketing strategy, he succeeded to double the number in the next month.
By January 2021, Chandigarh-based LetsShave was selling between 1500 to 2000 products in a day. Encouraged by the success the brand decided to transform the venture by adding face, shower, beard, electric trimmer, and body categories.
Revenue, Funding & Investment
The startup has gained the attention of significant investors in recent years. After Dorco showed interest in LetsShave and bought a small part of the company, in 2020, Wipro, a consumer care venture, also invested in the startup.
Since then, the startup has made total funding of over $6 million. The partnership with these international companies has helped LetsShave to continue growth in the grooming industry and enhance its online presence.
Today, the venture sells its products to around 100 countries and generates revenue of around Rs 54 crore. The success of the startup was because they focused mainly on solving the grooming problems.
Future Plans
Today the company has a wide range of shaving products like razors, after-shave balms, gels, pre-shave forms, etc. In India, products are sold either directly or through e-commerce platforms like Amazon, Myntra, Nykaa, Flipkart, and more.
In the future, LetsShave has plans to expand internationally and enter offline retail channels to become a top choice for grooming products.
From 30 to 40 orders monthly to over 20,000 orders per month, Sidharth S Oberoi shines as an inspiration for many individuals who have a goal to start something of their own. Till now the company has already sold over 10 million products across various platforms.
