How it All Started?
When Muskan was in college she got interested in dance and even started a YouTube channel to showcase her choreography skills. Additionally, she was always passionate about baking, so during her free time, she began experimenting with different recipes for fun. Through this experimentation, she discovered her love for making donuts.
Her first experimental batch was loved by her family and friends. They encouraged her to commercialize the skill.
Grasping the Opportunity: Turning Lockdown into Business
When people were forced to stay at home and struggled with job loss and business closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Muskan, an MBA graduate from Metas Adventist, saw it as an opportunity to pursue her passion.
After receiving positive feedback and support from her family and friends, Muskan decided to turn her hobby into a business. That’s when her entrepreneurial journey began. But when the lockdown ended, life went back to normal.
The Call to Entrepreneurship
One day, someone contacted her to ask if she still sold donuts. Muskan took it as a sign, and in 2013, she launched her startup, Donuterria.
In Surat, donuts were not initially a popular choice as the city is known for its traditional Indian sweets and dishes. In the beginning, the response was slow, with only 3 orders coming in over 5 days. Despite this, she didn’t give up and continued to work hard.
She was aware that she had to create the demand because people will buy only if they knew it is available. Thus, she started setting up small stalls in the city and was giving out free samples. Her donuts were loved by all and soon, customers started gathering.
The Power of Social Media
Muskan also utilized social media platforms like Instagram to share the process of making and packaging donuts. This helped her gain customers and increase her orders.
Eventually, people started loving the concept of making donuts. Soon her business gained immense popularity and grew rapidly. She began receiving requests from individuals to teach them the process of making donuts.
Sharing is Caring
Muskan, being the responsible entrepreneur, understood that she had to share what she knows and learned through her startup journey. Thus, she started hosting online workshops. Through this, she explains and teaches the process of making donuts—starting from the basics. She also shares secret techniques to create a successful batch and how to creatively decorate them. Through this, she had trained over 1500 people across India as well as in countries like the USA and Pakistan.
Success Comes to Those Who Never Stop Trying
Muskan’s undying spirit to thrive what she started gave her outstanding results. Within a year, Donuterria’s business was boosted, and the brand sold 300 donuts daily from her home kitchen. The brand now earns an average monthly revenue of around lakhs.
Along with her dedicated team of cooks, packers, and delivery people, Muskan is currently looking ahead to take her brand to a national level. Through her creativity and determination, Muskan has transformed her passion into a successful business.
