A Little Background Story About the Founder
Suhail was born and grew up in a labor-class family and learned the importance of resourcefulness and sustainability from his father; he played a vital role in his entrepreneurial journey. Watching his father make packaging materials from waste polyesters inspired him to explore sustainable solutions.
Mohd Suhail completed his Master’s in Social Work from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). Additionally, he also holds a graduate degree from Delhi University. In his college days, his social work includes raising funds for child education. Apart from this, he also works in skill development, tourism, and hospitality.
What Inspired Him?
Upon recognizing the effect of plastic pollution and carbon emissions that are caused by conventional packaging. He aimed to revolutionize the packaging industry with eco-friendly solutions.
The concept of Athar Packaging Solutions came to him during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 when he saw a vast amount of waste accumulation outside his window. At that time only, he made a mission to create eco-friendly packaging by recycling plastic waste from e-commerce, retail, and FMCG.
By 2021, he began exploring the paper waste field. He began converting waste papers into envelopes. After a thorough research, Sohail realized that industrial companies generate a lot of waste. Along with his co-founder of Venture Ruby, they began interacting with companies in Delhi that generate plastic waste.
Launch of Athar Packaging Solutions by Mohd Suhail: A Pilot Launch
In 2022, Athar Packaging Solutions was launched as a pilot project with just an investment of Rs 5 lakh. Suhail and his team began collecting waste and transforming it into corrugated boxes, envelopes, Kraft paper stands, zipper pouches, and more, and selling it to SMEs.
Challenges and Overcomes
When Suhail started the business, it was a little challenging for him to convince companies to hand over the plastic waste to him. Unorganized companies were easy to convince and didn’t have many issues. However, organized sector companies were hesitant because they had to follow the plastic discarding process in the government centers and maintain a record for the same.
However, with time, the situation got easier as people started understanding his work. He built a strong relationship with stakeholders, and using their network, they managed to generate much waste. Apart from this, logistics and funding were another big hurdle.
Moreover, in the beginning, Suhail didn’t have enough funding to run operations. He strongly faced these challenges and overcame them.
Ultimately, from 2022 to 2023, he succeeded in generating a client base of over 50 enterprises and reached an amount of Rs 68 lakhs.
Revenue
In 2024, Delhi-based Athar Packaging Solutions was officially founded by Mohd Suhail. In the same year, the startup interacted and made a strong relationship with over 20,000 company owners and made a revenue of Rs 1.33 crore.
Future Plans
In the coming years, the founder of the company is planning to expand their business and develop a tech platform where any company that generates plastic waste can share their waste directly with him. Their team will pick the waste and convert it into eco-friendly alternatives and sustainable packaging.
For Suhail, it’s not just a business but a mission to reduce plastic waste by 40% and carbon emissions by 30%. The unlimited goal of this young entrepreneur is to see a cleaner and greener future and become a leading sustainable packaging solutions provider.
